If I wanted a true pocket pistol, I would look at the Smith & Wesson BodyGuard in. Where the Compact rises above the Shield, for me, is its 6rd increased capacity and the ability to take 17rd magazines from the full size pistol, its accessory rail, and its interchangeable grips. I do think the height of the grip is a factor in concealability but they're essentially dead even here. comparing the Shield with the 8rd magazine to the Compact with 14 rds using the 12rd mag and a +2 baseplate, the Shield is actually 1/8' taller. The Shield is 1/4' thinner and 1/2' shorter in length than the Compact, however neither dimension affects concealability. because of this, when compared to the Compact, it doesn't really conceal any better and, IMO, falls short in a lot of ways. That said, the Shield is a little big for pocket carry so it makes the best sense carried in a waistband holster. The M&Ps have good triggers, however, I have an aversion to carrying a striker fired gun with a 5-6lb trigger inside my clothing, though I do realize a lot of people don't. I carried a Kahr for awhile but didn't warm up to that trigger either. not conducive to good marksmanship and I got rid of it. Of the three, the only one I would carry in my pocket is the Keltec because it had a 12lb trigger that broke like the last turn of the key on a sardine can. I've had a Keltec9, M&P Shield 9mm, and M&P Compact 9.
